Magic Pitigliano

The Tuscan town of Pitigliano lies loftily on a 300-meter-high tuff rock. From afar, the breath stops at this sight. While my family rode up the same height, I painted under the rocks and caught the view to the west.

Storm in Portovenere 2

Portovenere is picturesquely situated behind La Spezia. It forms the southern entrance to the Cinque Terre, even if it does not belong to it. Here are many of my hikes. Today the weather is bad and yet Portovenere is magically beautiful. Portovenere shows its rough side today. Wild. Stormy. Rainy. And gladly that makes me really mood: Because the tourists are gone. I'm almost alone. Paint with oil paints against the rain? No problem. Of course, I have smeared my clothes with paint and of course, the painting is not knotty. It has mistakes. But it lives. Because Portovenere is here on the Leinbwand for me as I have experienced it. Just lovely. Just beautiful.

Storm in Portovenere

For me Cinque Terrre already begins in Portovenere. Of course I know that Postrovenere is not yet part of it. But on foot or by boat it is only a couple of kilometers to Riomaggiore. Portovenere is for many tourists far away from the port city of La Spezia. It is always a worthwhile and especially picturesque destination. The best way to get here is by bus. From here you can also admire the offshore islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. Or one over sets and wanders there. I myself am already in Portovenere at 6 o'clock in the morning. It is stormy. The clouds are pitch black. Again and again it rains. But exactly this mood fascinates and moves me. Not a single tourist is here. The only thing I feel are the elements wind, water, sand and salt. Nature is overwhelming. The Mment is unique. Some would say: Can not paint. But why not? I love it here. And I paint it wild and stormy. In Portovenere I start again and again with various hikes to Cinque Terre. Today I enjoy the wind, the waves and the bad weather. Portovenere is just beautiful. And especially when you are completely alone with your canvas and its colors. Well, that's not true. An elderly Italian, who has lived here for 58 years, has been watching me for over an hour. Then she thinks at some point embarrassed, that it is much better here. And she says she fell in love with my painting. Then she is gone. I am moved, almost sad. If a real Italian stands for my oil painting, it touches me a lot.

Beloved Venice Oil Painting

Time and again I am drawn to Venice. This time in March. It's cool and even though Carnival is in Venice, there are hardly any tourists on the side roads. And so I can almost enjoy my view of the Rialto Bridge alone. No one bothers me. I do not attach much importance to details in this oil painting. My aim is to capture the magical evening mood. It is a moment in Venice that makes me stop. The colors are so intense and beautiful for a few minutes, as if they want to tell me: Stay here forever! Venice is much more than a tourist resort. You do not have to hunt every attraction. You can just sit down and be completely quiet. Then you also hear real Italians talking. If the locals feel undisturbed, they enjoy and share their feelings with a painter. Why do I paint and not simply take pictures with my mobile phone? I dont know. Just sitting here and watching, painting ... does not make me extremely happy.
